| Two Rare 19th C Large Folio Pair Of English Coaching Oil Paintings - J. C. Maggs (1819-1882) This Pair Of Exceptionally Detailed Paintings By Famed Coaching Artist J. C. Maggs (John Charles Maggs 1819-1882) Each Circa: 1880. J. C. Maggs lived on Gay Street in Bath England. He was a master of this genre and widely patronized including "Queen Victoria" purchased his work. Both works are signed lower left J.C. Maggs - 1880. Reframed and relined in 1930. Work completed by D. B. Butler & Co, 126 East. 57th Street. NYC. Maggs seldom had two coaches in one painting - which supports the larger than normal size of each work. One is titled: "Racing Together" - Norwich-Cambridge and Norwich-London Royal Coach and the other is titled: At the pub / Way Station" Norwich - London Royal - one coach and hunt arriving. Overall Size: 45 3/4" X 28 1/2", Canvas Image Size: 37" X 19 1/2" Price presented as a purchase for the pair $37,500. |
