One Very Fine 19th C American Classical Portrait Of Theophilus Parson Chandler born 1845 in the Boston Community. As an adult he was a very important architect in 19th century Philadelphia and designed many of the beautiful and historic landmark buildings especially in the Chestnut Hill area. Greystock which is one of his renowned projects is pictured quite often. Mr. Chandler was also an accomplished artist. Hist most active painting period was in the 1880's.
The artist of this child portrait of Theophilus Parsons Chandler is currently unknown due to the fact that this oil painting is not signed. We can only "attribute" this oil painting to an educated conjecture. The most logical artist to have painted this portrait at this time could be George Fuller (1822-1844) The time frame and the vicinity of Boston fit the period and the style of the painting which looks like a Fuller portrait.
This lovely oil painting is in a superb state of preservation and has been recently cleaned. Until it was acquired by Equinox Antiques & Fine Art it has always been in the family by direct decent since it was painted back around 1850.
A very nice portrait for the Classical Americana collector. Please contact the gallery if you need any further questions answered. Thank-you. Contact: Mark Reinfurt - Director
